On the banks of the Cedar River, Chauncey Leverich fulfilled his dream and created a city: Austin, Minnesota.

In a lifetime that spanned only 29 years, Chauncey Leverich lived a life rich with adventure, entrepreneurship, legal battles and hardships. Yet, he never lost his vision of founding a city. He stated “Here I will pitch my tent and here I will found a city.” Other historical accounts cite that while standing on the banks of the Cedar River, he said “Here is my home” and after shooting a quail added “and here is my meat!” The city he founded became known as Austin, Minnesota.
